The tour will see Mat perform in his current two-piece format of vocals-guitar-electronics alongside long-time friend and live collaborator David Briceno.
Renowned for dynamic and engaging live shows, Mat McHugh’s ‘High Up!’ Summer 2017 tour will deliver a mix of great songs and deep electronic beats with a smorgasbord of tracks from his three critically acclaimed solo albums WAVES, Love Come Save Me and Seperatista!. This new touring format has been hugely welcomed by audiences worldwide, so much so that Mat was recently invited back to Europe to support successful South African singer songwriter Jeremy Loops for a month long run of sold out shows.
As an added bonus for fans Mat is giving away two free remixes of High Up and Pocket Full of Shells which have been reimagined by German electronic gems The Yum Yums. The tracks are available now here: High Up - mat-mchugh-the-yum-yums-high-up-remix Pocket Full of Shells - mat-mchugh-the-yumyums-pocket-full-of-shells-remix
The latter part of 2015 was a tumultuous time for Mat McHugh. Having written, recorded and released WAVES (wavesthealbum.com), Mat unfortunately had to cancel a series of shows due to a serious spinal injury. Rather than go through potentially voice-damaging or mobility threatening surgery, Mat sought out specialists five days a week for the past twelve months to get him back to the point where he could again pick up and play his guitar. Now a year on Australian fans will welcome a return to the stage from this dedicated musician.
Says Mat from Paris about returning to Australia for a run of Summer shows - “Growing up on the beach on the East Coast of Oz I was surrounded by the sounds of punk rock, dub reggae, hip hop, soul, digital dancehall and the smell of fresh surfboard wax and coconut sunscreen. Every song I’ve ever written has those ingredients in its DNA. The culture and the sound are inseparable. And, of all the places I play music each year, none ever make as much sense to me as the coastline of Australia in summertime. The songs get to hang out at home for a while.”
What better way to spend a summer evening than beach side with Mat McHugh and who knows you might come across him in the WAVES!
