Mojo Bullet Presents
taylor EP launch(AUS)
Supported by Karl S Williams
Masters of heavy folk rock—Taylor—play Soundlounge, Gold Coast on Friday 16th November along with much loved blues music troubadour Karl S. Williams. The event celebrates Taylor’s new EP release One Long Breath. Front man David Taylor’s memorably moody vocal timbre is framed by the virtuoso musicians he’s assembled, including Nick Stewart from ARIA award winning band George, Conservatorium trained Crick Boue, Michael McCartney (Ash Grunwald, Jimmy the Saint and the Sinners) and multi-instrumentalist Scott French. Taylor has honed a style and sound sophisticated in its harmony and uniquely theatrical in its performance. Their live show is mesmerising, dynamic and thoroughly unforgettable.
Seductive, moody and theatrical, Taylor evokes the charming sort of hope that emerges from the dark corner of a room. The band has honed a style and sound sophisticated in its harmony with the lyrical landscape of singer/ songwriter David Taylor’s rich vocal timbre intensified by his impressive collection of virtuoso musicians including Nick Stewart from ARIA award winning band George, Conservatorium trained Crick Boue on bass, Michael
McCartney (Ash Grunwald, Jimmy the Saint and the Sinners) and gifted multi-instrumen- talist Scott French.
Fresh of the back of supporting The Whitlams and Boy and Bear, Taylor are bringing their unique style and swagger into 2018 with a new recording set to stun. Little Tornado, the first single off their upcoming EP was released in June and accompanied an East Coast tour. Crush Me, the next offering is scheduled for October followed by their EP One Long Breath in November. The EP was recorded at The Aviary studio in Melbourne by producer George Carpenter, a graduate of the Bachelor of Popular Music from Queensland Conservatorium who is rapidly garnering a solid reputation for his engineering and production talent. The tracks was recorded live to tape as some of the greatest recordings of all time have been done, and will be pressed to vinyl on the forthcoming EP.
David Taylor—a Queensland native—brings an eclectic history to his current musical en- deavours. He has featured in several theatre roles and has worked as a scenic artist on
many of the Gold Coast’s major motion pictures. He has even worked as a stunt performer
at Universal Studios in Japan. But music and songwriting is his greatest love with his lyri- cal prowess a clear standout.
The release of Taylor’s debut full-length album Warmer in July 2010 coincided with a successful tour of the east coast. The organic album included alluring yet disarmingly haunting songs, captured in places as far afield as a farmhouse in southern England and
the muddy tracks of Vietnam, to Amsterdam and Osaka, and were finally recorded in a wa- ter tank tucked away in the hills of Northern NSW. The unconventional location proved an
ideal melting pot and the band enlisted the craftsmanship of Engineer/Producer Govinda Doyle (Angus & Julia Stone) to blend the vintage tones, classic narrative and distinct modern pop sensibility of Taylor’s dynamic band.
For the creation of Taylor’s second studio album, he once again assembled his multi tal- ented band of musicians to lay down the musical mood that would match his brutally hon- est lyric. However, Taylor took a different approach to his second album, straying from the
previous organic nature of Warmer, Taylor admits that his second album To Bed with You provides a more “polished and produced sound – in a good way”. Taylor recorded the album on home turf at Love Street Studios and released the album in June 2013 on the Gold Coast. In contrast to Taylor’s first album, To Bed with You seems to encapsulate a
singular time, an album of the mind, anxious and heavily infected. It is an intimate affair, which includes his signature moments of humour and joy, but overall, it is deliciously dark.
Karl S. Williams
KARL S. WILLIAMS is a guitar-slinging, banjo-wielding freak equally adept at heart shredding piano with a voice that will confound expectations. Over the past few months KARL S. WILLIAMS has taken his new album ‘Heartwood’ around the country supporting BUSBY MAROU, played one of the most talked about sets at BigSound and headed to New York City to Showcase at the CMJ Music Marathon. Returning to home soil in November, KARL S. WILLIAMS will be playing a run of festivals such as Bridge Town Blues, Queenscliff Music Festival, Drop In Festival and Festival Of The Sun, with a few intimate headline shows in between.
The first single from ‘Heartwood’ is the stomping ‘Time Bomb’ with “I’m a daisy cutting, motherfucking judgement day” proving to be one of the more memorable choruses of 2014. Since it’s initial release the backbone of “Heartwood” has been the Jeff Buckleyesque piano song “Is This Love” which showcases what is truly special about Karls voice. “Is This Love” is scheduled for release in early 2015, before he starts working on album number two.
His stunning performance at BigSound in September received rave reviews and had him named as one of 10 of the buzziest bands at the conference by The Guardian and in Rolling Stone Magazine’s Top Five Acts.
